I think I’ve now made a permanent switch to Apple and macOS. The way Microsoft Windows again has a monopoly over laptops, desktops, and tablets is positively disgusting. The whole UEFI transition and using Secure Boot (cryptographically signed bootloaders) took things a step too far for my tastes. Any laptop or other PC made after 2017 without an optical drive can’t boot Linux because of all the impediments to making that work.
UPDATE: To be honest, I’m not completely sold on Apple yet. They use planned obsolescence in both their software and hardware. They’re generally more expensive than products available in the PC market. I guess I’m in transition at the moment? I do really like using a x86 desktop for Linux virtualization (VMs).
